For surf beaches and the Surfers Paradise skyline, theme parks, whale watching, water activities and a rainforest hinterland with Springbrook, Natural Bridge and Tamborine Mountain.
Yes along the coastal strip: the G:link tram and buses connect major centres and route 777 links Gold Coast Airport with Broadbeach South. Hinterland waterfalls and scattered theme parks are less convenient without a car or tour.
No. Brisbane Airport is a separate journey north; Airtrain connects through to Gold Coast stations and the tram at Helensvale. Gold Coast Airport at Bilinga is the closer airport for the southern coast.
The urban coast includes Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads and the southern beaches around Currumbin, Kirra and Coolangatta. Wave Break Island is in the Broadwater, not an oceanfront resort beach.
The city has a rainforest hinterland rather than alpine mountains. Springbrook and Lamington national parks and Tamborine Mountain are inland drives; they are not walkable extensions of Surfers Paradise.
It does not have a single compact centre where beaches, theme parks and rainforest sights are all walkable. It also has no Great Barrier Reef access: reef trips belong much farther north in Queensland.
